Stihl

Overview | Role: Digital Product Designer | Agency: Team One

Stihl is a high-end power tool company and we were given the task of updating their digital platform to not only make it modern, but also make it feel as rock solid as their tools.

Stihl’s digital experience was far behind it’s competitors and they had yet to stand up and e-commerce platform or do any online sales instead relying entirely on local distributors. We planned to change that by creating a personalized, high end experience for every shopper.

Product pages were designed to educate the customer about the tool and decide if it is the right one for them, the financial implications and reinforce how it has worked for other people like them with reviews.

Previously, Stihl retailers had a huge amount of control over their own microsites hosted on subdomains of Stihl’s global site. We set up modular templates for them to standardize the experience and let customers understand the benefits of going into a store to buy a Stihl product and maintaining that relationship. We also let customers start reserving tools online that were in-stock as a way of easing retailers and Stihl towards a true e-commerce experience.

Power Tools can be intimidating for new customers and Stihl wants to create lifelong relationships, so we created a low friction, human way for people to find the tools that they were looking for without needing to know all the lingo and specs. They just needed to know that they wanted to cut down a tree.
